All Along The Watchtower

Bob Dylan

C#m B A Thing
            C#m B A Thing
There must be some way out of here
Said the Joker to the Thief
                There's too much confusion
                I can't get no relief
                Businessmen they drinks my wine
                Plowman dig my earth
None of them along the line
                Nobody of it is worth.
                           *Solo* (Verse)

                No reason to get excited
                The thief he kindly spoke
There are many here among us
Who feel that life is but a joke
But you and I, we've been through that
And this is not our fate
So let us not talk falsely now
                The hour is getting late.
                           *Solo* (Verse)

                All along the watchtower
                Princes kept the view
While all the women came and went
                Barefoot servants, too
                Outside in the distance
                A wildcat did growl
                Two riders were approaching
                The wind began to howl...
                           *Solo* (Verse)

Actually, you don't have to worry about playing the "A Thing". It's just (roughly speaking) what Dylan does, and I think it sounds nice. You could just play a straight A chord, or you can play a B between the A and the next C#m like Hendrix does (C#m B A B C#m) -- except Hendrix tunes down half a step -- (C Bb Ab Bb C).
  A Thing:
    e |---------5----
    B |----22-2-5-2--
    G |-2--22-2-2-2--
    D |-2--22-2---2--
    A |-0------------
    E |--------------
            ^ ^
 ^ = upstroke

What a long strange trip it's been!
