Down In The Flood

Bob Dylan

Gsus4 flourish into G
            G Gsus4 flourish (x2)
Crash on the levee, mama, water's gonna overflow
            C7 rock G Gsus4 flourish (x2)
Swamp's gonna rise, and no boat's gonna row
                                 G Bridge Thing (repeat)
You can train on down to William's Point
                                 (repeat) (repeat)
You can bust your feet, you can rock this joint
                                   C7 rock Gsus4 flourish (x2)
But oh mama, you gonna miss your best friend now
                                                   D Am C G Gsus4 flourish (x2)
You're gonna have to find yourself another best friend, somehow...

Now, don't you try an' move me, mama, you're just gonna lose
There's been a crash on the levee and, mama, you've been refused
Well, it's king over king, and it's queen over queen
It's gonna be the meanest flood that anybody's ever seen
Whoa mama, you gonna miss your best friend now
You're gonna have to find yourself another best friend, somehow...

Well, the high tide's risin', mama don't you let me down
Pack up your suitcase, mama don't you make a sound
Well, it's sugar for sugar and it's salt for salt
If you go down in the flood, it's gonna be your fault
Oh mama, ain't you gonna miss your best friend now?
You gonna have to find yourself another best friend, somehow...

This song is made by the interplay between two guitars. It starts out on a flourish and has a double flourish at the end of most of the lines. The C7 part can be played straight or with the alternate riff shown below. The bridge riff is played four times ands can be simplified from the tab by hitting the D Db B and G notes in the chord once each (see action B string). The cool G lick can be thrown in on either of the first two lines of each verse.
