Well let me tell you 'bout the way she looked
The way she acted, the color of her hair
Her voice was soft and good, her eyes were clear and bright
But she's not there...

There's kind of a trippy thing going on here. The bass and the keyboard are making the music, but there's an invisible place where the guitar isn't - and that's where the chords are. In the intro, the bass is playing around Am and D, but the keys are doing an Am7 D D Dsus4 -- the guitar would be playing Am and D. The keyboard does many interesting variations on the chords, but the focus is "where would a guitar fit into this all?"
